Meet Dr. Matthew Yuen, DDS

Dr. Matthew Yuen grew up in Alameda, California, with an older sister and two younger brothers. He played nearly every sport a kid could sign up for and spent years planning on a career in professional baseball. When that path closed, his interest in how the body works carried him to UC Davis, where he majored in Exercise Biology and minored in Technology Management. Working in dental offices for a couple of years settled the question. He earned his D.D.S. from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, then completed a General Practice Residency at the McClellan VA caring for veterans.

Teaching shaped the way Dr. Yuen practices. He tutored microbiology, physiology, and pre-clinical dental technique, and helped teach the anatomy course at UC Davis and at the graduate level in dental school. Explaining complicated things in plain language became second nature, and patients feel that when he walks them through X-rays or treatment options. He completes hundreds of hours of continuing education every year to stay current on the techniques and materials that make treatment more comfortable and results more predictable. He has also served on overseas dental mission trips and volunteers at community service events whenever his schedule allows.

Comprehensive care matters to Dr. Yuen because it spares patients being sent elsewhere for treatment, which is why our Castro Valley practice handles so much under one roof. Patients describe him as gentle and unhurried, and treating people like family is the standard he sets for our team. Outside the office, he refines his barbecue skills, spends time with his wife, reads constantly, and plays tennis on the same Palomares Hills courts where he grew up. He loves all things Disney and the outdoors, and he is glad to talk about any of it during your visit.
